The film takes place three years after the onset of the Clone Wars. Along the way they must contend with the mysterious return of the Sith and the Sith apprentice Darth Maul. While escorting and protecting Queen Amidala they meet Anakin Skywalker, a young slave boy who seems to be unusually strong with The Force. The film follows the Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi. It was the start of a three-part prequel to the original Star Wars trilogy. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace was released in 1999.
